Waste Valorization

 At Empresas Bio-E we recover energy from household and industrial organic waste through anaerobic digestion. With this technology we are able to transform the organic matter contained in the organic waste into energy in different forms, such as electrical energy, thermal energy or biogas, which is a biofuel with characteristics similar to natural gas.

In addition, as a result of the anaerobic digestion process, a material called "digestate" is obtained, which is rich in micro and macronutrients. Due to its properties, the "digestate" is valorized and used as a biofertilizer, transforming this process into a "zero waste" technology.

Energy

At Empresas Bio-E, through anaerobic digestion, we transform the chemical energy contained in organic waste (organic matter) into a biofuel called biogas, which is mainly composed of methane (CH4), which is a component that contains the chemical energy transformed into a gas.

Subsequently, the biogas is combusted in an engine, transforming the chemical energy into mechanical energy through the explosion, which generates the rotation of the engine. In addition, the engine is connected to a generator, which with its rotation transforms the kinetic energy into electrical energy. On the other hand, when a cogenerator is used, in addition to transforming chemical energy into electrical energy, the thermal energy contained in the engine exhaust gases is used to heat a closed water circuit by means of a heat exchanger, also obtaining the recovery of thermal energy in the system.

1. Waste treatment
Organic waste treatment service in its anaerobic digestion plant located in Molina, which treats waste from different origins, such as vineyards, meat packing plants, dairy companies, salmon farms, among others.
2. Energy production
From our production processes we mainly generate electricity through the use of motor generators that use biogas as fuel, which also serves as a fuel source for boilers and kettles for the generation of steam and hot water respectively. The energy produced is injected to specific clients such as the San Pedro vineyard or CEMARC, as well as to the SEN (National Electric System). We also have the option of generating thermal energy simultaneously through CHP generators.

3. Biofertilizer production

All the material that the biodigester cannot transform into biogas (called digestate), leaves the anaerobic reactors and enters a physical separation process, where a pressed solid fraction and a liquid fraction are obtained. Both by-products are rich in micro and macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, minerals, etc.) and are used as biofertilizers and soil improvers. 

4. Development of biogas plants

We have a multidisciplinary team for the operation and maintenance of biogas plants of different technologies and scales. In this way we deliver integral and feasible solutions to climate change through the valorization of organic waste, transforming it into renewable energy and thus contributing to a more sustainable country in the search for a circular economy.

Bio fertilizer

At Empresas Bio-E, through anaerobic digestion, we generate a by-product called "digestate" which is a biofertilizer rich in micro and macronutrients that is agriculturally known as a complete "NPK" fertilizer, since it mainly provides nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium which are essential elements for the growth and life cycle of any flora.

We supply the digestate to various farmers in the vicinity of our project sites with the intention of using the digestate as a biofertilizer and/or soil improver for agricultural use. The application of the biofertilizer is done by incorporating the material into the soil, an application that makes the micro and macronutrients contained in the digestate available to the vegetation for its use, thus promoting the circular economy together with sustainable agriculture.
